The break is long, and it can be intimidating! We need it, but it can be hard to pick back up again after the break is over. In December, we talked about some of the ways that we can continue to lead our groups well during breaks, and stay connected in meaningful but manageable ways! Here are some practical ideas for partying together and serving together, two great ways to stay connected!
Host a Pre-Union
Plan an hour-long get together around some food, host it on the same day as group meets, and just hang out! Maybe have some fun questions to catch up about everyone's break, or just pick a fun game to play together. Just get everyone in the same room and start to catch up! It moves you a long way toward feeling close again when that first group rolls around.
MEET FOR A DINNER OUT
Most everyone loves an excuse to eat at a fun restaurant! Sometimes seeing each other outside of the normal host home is a fast track to feeling more connected. You don't have to host; just show up and let people enjoy each other's company!
VENTURA COUNTY WINTER WARMING SHELTER
Mission's very own Steven Karnazes manages Ventura County's homeless winter warming shelter! And they need all the volunteers they can get! This is a great opportunity to serve together as a group, and it doesn't take a lot of planning on your part! Here's some helpful info:
- Volunteer Training: Saturday, January 9 from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
- Shelter is open every night until March.
- Evening volunteer shift is 5:30 - 9:00 PM
Morning volunteer shift is 4:00 - 6:00 AM
- It will include setting up mats, preparing linens, and serving meals.
- Volunteers will need to attend the training and have a TB test prior to serving. They can get the TB test before the training at their doctor's office or an urgent care facility.
Email Tommy if you want to RSVP for the training!
RESTORE is a great organization that Mission partners with, dedicated to educating, mentoring, and equipping families in need. They work mostly around Ventura Ave. and do some amazing work planting gardens, making spaces beautiful, and helping families clean and fix homes and yards. Here are some of the opportunities for helping out!
