Main Point: Jesus Understands My Challenges

Bible Story: Jesus Predicts His Death (Mark 8:31-38)

WHAT YOU DO

  1. Watch the video! Sing and dance along to the worship songs, watch the Bible story, and connect the big idea to real life!

  2. Talk about each of the questions to keep the conversation going

  3. Do the activity together to have some fun and reinforce the big idea!

Talk It Through Together

Question of the day! (all ages!)

  • Go around the room and ask the question: “If you were an animal, what would you be?”

Questions for 1st-3rd Graders

  1. After Jesus died, how many days until He was raised from the dead?

  2. Why did Jesus have to die?

  3. When Peter found out Jesus was going to die, how do you think he felt?

  4. Do you think it was hard for Jesus to tell his disciples that He was going to die?

Questions for 4th-5th Graders

  1. Why did Jesus have to die?

  2. What did Jesus say a Jesus follower has to do?

  3. Read Mark 8:33. “But Jesus turned and looked at his followers. Then he criticized Peter. He said to Peter, “Get away from me, Satan! You don’t care about the same things God does. You care only about things that people think are important.”

  4. What do you think it means to “care about the same things that God does?”

  5. Do you think it was hard for Jesus to tell his disciples that he was going to die?

3. DO IT // ACTIVITIES

FAMILY CHALLENGE - Epic Rock, Paper, Scissors (AKA Squat, Lunge, Jump)

For the FINAL family challenge it’s every person for themselves in this epic game of rock, paper, scissors!

Each player must do an exercise pose at the count of three: A squat for rock, a lunge for scissors, and a jumping jack for paper.

Play until only one person remains! The winner of this epic challenge gets 5 POINTS! Tally up all the points from each week’s challenge and see who is the ultimate champion!

ACTIVITY 2 - Encouragement Cards

This week, we were reminded that Jesus understands our challenges, and that means that He can help us when we’re facing challenges, too!

Today, we’re going to write a card of encouragement to someone who we know is facing a challenge! Decorate a postcard, then write a note of encouragement! After you write the card, find a way to give or send it to them!

YOU DID IT!

Continue the conversation all week by talking about how Jesus helps us with what we need.
