Bible Story: Gideon’s Army - Judges 7:1-8

Verse of the Month
God’s way (point up)
is perfect! (two thumbs up)
2 Samual 22:31 (hold hands like an open book)
God gave us the words of the Bible to show us who He is!
Practice the verse a few times! In Mission Kids, we often practice saying it different ways, like sqeaky, SUPER LOUD, or with a roar!
Talk It Out
Who was Gideon? (He was the leader of an army!)
What did God tell Gideon to do? (Go defeat the other army.)
Did Gideon go God’s way? (Yes, he gathered a big army.)
Then what did God tell Gideon to do? (God told Gideon to make his army smaller.)
Did Gideon go God’s way? (Yes, he told the army if they were afraid they could go home.)
Then what did God tell Gideon to do? (God told him to make the army smaller again.)
Did Gideon go God’s way? (Yes, he told the army to get some water, and whoever put their faces in the water had to go home.)
Then what did God tell Gideon to do? (He said now they were ready to fight.)
Did Gideon go God’s way? (Yes, he jump, jumped and did what God told him to do.)
Did Gideon’s army win? (They won, because God’s way is perfect.)
Sometimes we don’t understand God’s way, but we can trust that God’s way is perfect. Whose way is perfect? God’s way is perfect!
Pray Together
Pray together using the one below or your own.
“Dear God, thank you for (name each person in the room). Help us to trust that your way is perfect. Help us all be brave enough to tell others that your way is perfect. And we pray they will learn to go your way, even when they don’t understand. Thank You for loving us and helping us go Your way. We love you, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
MAKE IT // ART ACTIVITY
What you need: Activity Pages (view/print below or grab from your May Church Kit), scissors, and crayons.
What you do:
Give your kiddo the activity page and work together to color it.
Help them cut their papers on the dotted lines.
Fold the paper on the solid line.
Review the story and show your kiddo how to make the army smaller.
When you are done, remind your kiddo, “When God asks us to do something, it doesn’t always make sense to us, but we can trust that God’s way is perfect. Whose way is perfect? God’s way is perfect!”
MOVE IT // ACTIVE ACTIVITY
What you need: Footprint Pages (view/print below or grab from your May Church Kit)
What you do:
Place your footprints on the floor in a line alternating different directions.
Jump on each set of footprints going the direction of the footprints.
When you are done, remind your kiddo, “Sometimes we don’t understand God’s way, but we can trust God, and go God’s way, because God’s way is perfect.”
YOU DID IT!
Continue the conversation all week by reminding each other of all the ways that God’s way is perfect!
