The 10 minute coaching session
What’s on your mind?
You, as the leader, are responsible for starting the conversation.
NOT “how can I help you?" - because you don’t know if you can help or not, and even if you can, they have to retain ownership of their issue.
Fight for the last 10%, it’s usually the most critical.
This question invites transparency and promises safety. It says “I know there’s more and you’re allowed to tell me all of it.”
Without the full story, you can never find an effective solution
What’s the real challenge here for you?
Identify the core problem, not the surrounding drama
It has to be FOR YOU. This pulls people away from blaming others or playing the victim.
What’s the one thing that YOU can do that could greatly improve or completely solve the problem?
Personal responsibility is the only path to change. This question creates accountability and ownership.
It doesn’t have to be huge - Habit stacking is the process of consistent micro changes stacking on top of each other to create real change.
Be bold enough to say, “Until you do the one thing, we can’t move forward.”
What do you need to do that one thing? permission, courage, encouragement, wisdom, training, help, accountability, knowledge, prayer
