 The 10 minute coaching session

  • What’s on your mind?

    • You, as the leader, are responsible for starting the conversation.

    • NOT “how can I help you?" - because you don’t know if you can help or not, and even if you can, they have to retain ownership of their issue.

  • Anything Else?

    • Fight for the last 10%, it’s usually the most critical.

    • This question invites transparency and promises safety. It says “I know there’s more and you’re allowed to tell me all of it.”

    • Without the full story, you can never find an effective solution

  • What’s the real challenge here for you?

    • Identify the core problem, not the surrounding drama

    • It has to be FOR YOU. This pulls people away from blaming others or playing the victim.

  • What’s the one thing that YOU can do that could greatly improve or completely solve the problem?

    • Personal responsibility is the only path to change. This question creates accountability and ownership.

    • It doesn’t have to be huge - Habit stacking is the process of consistent micro changes stacking on top of each other to create real change.

    • Be bold enough to say, “Until you do the one thing, we can’t move forward.”

    • Follow-Up Question

      • What do you need to do that one thing? permission, courage, encouragement, wisdom, training, help, accountability, knowledge, prayer
