What you do

Memory Verse
Everyone (arms out)
who heard him (hands behind ears)
was amazed (hands around eyes like binoculars)
Luke 2:47 (hold hands like an open book)
God gave us the words of the Bible to show us who He is!
Practice the verse a few times! In Mission Kids, we often practice saying it different ways, like reallllyyyy sllowwwllyyyy, SUPER LOUD, or with a roar!
Talk it through together
Why were all the people at the temple in the story with Jesus, Mary, and Joseph (for a celebration!)
What was Jesus doing at the temple? (Learning!)
What did people learn about at the temple? (God!)
What do you think Jesus was like as a kid?
The people at the temple were learning from Jesus — what is something you want to learn from Jesus?
Who is amazing? (Jesus is amazing!)
Pray Together
Before you pray, ask your kiddo to tell you one thing they know about God. Then pray together using the one below or your own.
“Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to do amazing things like teach us about you. Jesus is your Son, so we trust what He says about you. Jesus teaches us that (say the things you know about God). You are so good, God! And we love You! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
MAKE IT // ART ACTIVITY
What you need: Activity Page (view/print below, or grab it from the December/January Church Kit if you have one!), tape, and scissors.
What you do:
Cut out the “people” squares and tape them over the three boxes on the page. Tape them so you can lift them up like a flap.
Have your kiddo find Jesus by lifting the flaps.
Remind your kiddo that Jesus was out-of-this-world amazing, even as a child! Who is amazing? Jesus is amazing!
MOVE IT // ACTIVE ACTIVITY
What you need: Activity Page (grab it from the December/January Church Kit if you have one!) or paper and crayons.
What you do:
Place the cards in random order on the floor.
Introduce the cards by pointing out that some cards are babies, some are children, and some are grown ups.
Work together to match the baby, child, and grown up.
Remind your kiddo that during Christmas we heard stories about Jesus as a baby. Now today we heard a story about Jesus as a child. Who is amazing? Jesus is amazing!
YOU DID IT!
Continue the conversation all week by reminding each other of all the ways God is amazing!
